Overview

The Work

Carpenters from UBC Local 606, founded in 1953, serve Minnesota's Iron Range — the Virginia, Eveleth, Gilbert, and Mountain Iron area. Work centers on mining support facility construction and maintenance, community commercial buildings, and institutional projects. The Iron Range's unique industrial economy means carpenters here often work on heavy industrial structures alongside traditional commercial and residential construction.

Day One as an Apprentice

Your first day you'll report to a job site on the Iron Range and meet your journeyman mentor. Expect to start with material handling, site safety orientation, and learning the basics of how a construction crew operates. Early weeks focus on blueprint reading, tool familiarity, and building foundational carpentry skills in an industrial environment.
